The Unexpected Similarity Between Thanksgiving and Process Mining (and one big difference)

New article articles in ServiceNow Community · Nov 15, 2024 · article

Thanksgiving is upon us. It happens to be one of my favorite holidays and as I started to get excited for this year’s celebration, I started to realize there were a few similarities (and one big difference) between Thanksgiving and what I spend much of the rest of my days thinking about – Process Mining.

Process Mining, for those not familiar, is a data analysis technique/solution that allows us to examine the business processes we have running inside of our organizations. It helps visualize the reality of how work is getting done, uncovering inefficiencies and opportunities to improve. In short, it’s like an x-ray for your business processes.

What connected Thanksgiving and Process Mining in my head was watching our customers react to this new level of visibility into their realities. The visualized process maps and their insights started to bring different people from different parts of the organization together and is helping to facilitate conversations that should have been taking place more often, but no one had made the time for that to happen. Just like when we as family and friends come together on Thanksgiving, sit around a table (rather than virtual meeting) and catch up about our realities.
