ServiceNow's Employee Center: Out-of-the-box Taxonomy Models

New article articles in ServiceNow Community · Sep 20, 2024 · article

Introduction: What is a taxonomy?

Employee Center's unified taxonomy is a collection of hierarchical topics that brings together different content types – requests, articles, quick links, employee communications– across departments into a single employee-centric taxonomy. It also drives content discovery experiences via navigation, topics and topic pages. Watch the Employee Center Academy Webinar for additional guidance and to learn more about curated experiences.

If you are building out an Employee Center taxonomy and not sure how to begin, reference ServiceNow's out-of-the-box (OOTB) taxonomy models as a starting point.

Leading Practices for Building Taxonomy

  1. Review the taxonomy models
  2. Identify gaps or topics that may need to be renamed to align with organizational taxonomy
  3. Strongly recommended: validate your Unified Taxonomy using tree testing
  4.  (Optional) If the OOTB taxonomy does not align with your organization, it is recommended to conduct a card sort and learn how your end users categorize content
