Resolution on creating Duplicate entries in CMDB for Oracle Instances.

Error: Creating Multiple entries in CMDB for Oracle Instances .

  1. We have imported list of Oracle instances to our CMDB Table. All were created as Discovery source “manual Entry”
  2. Now, we are trying to discover those devices using Discovery. Actually, snow Discovery should check if the record exists for that IP in CMDB or not. If it exists, it should update the record. If not, create the new CI. But in our case, SNOW was creating multiple CI’s in our CMDB.

Solution:

  1. Create a separate Identifier for Oracle Instances based on the unique criterions. Get the unique attributes from Oracle Instances team.
  2. In our case, Unique attributes for Oracle Instances are “ Name” and “SID”.

  • Run discovery again for the device failing with this issue. You will see one CI getting updated and the other one will be marked as "Duplicate".
  • You can delete the Duplicate Entry from CI table. After deleting the duplicate CI, you will not see the CI creating multiple entries/duplicates.
