Title: Workplace Service Delivery: Getting started with Workplace Indoor Mapping

Import · Jul 10, 2024 · video

hi everyone welcome to the workplace indoor mapping demo during this session we're going to give you an overview of indoor mapping and help explain how to get started with indoor mapping this session will be led by m myself so from the outbound product management team and Alex who's a product success architect so just before getting started I do want to give you an overview of what is indoor mapping which personas do we cater to so indoor mapping is a tool which can be used throughout the workplace Service delivery Suite in different aspects so first of all this CES for the workplace team we provide them with a map Studio which we'll go into detail today a a map Studio which is going to enable them to come and import their floor plans configure a map configure a view and then have that uh map actually displayed to their end users that end user can either be an employee so an employee can then use these Maps depending on the way it's been configured and what the admins have defined the use cases for the map they can actually decide to raise cases they can create a reservation they can uh ask for way finding so understanding how to get from point A to point B both on the desktop and Via Mobile but this map also caters for the space planner Persona so they can have this map to be able to help them understand the layout of their actual facilities understand how they can optimize the space how they can easily assign employees to desks how they can Define different neighborhoods different cost centers or different departments so really providing that map for the facility manager space planner uh within the workplace Central to be to enable them to make different actions uh with a visual ual aspect to it so what we're going to focus on for this session is really understanding step by step how do I actually go through and configure my map so this the tool that's used for this is the map Studio this is where a map admin uh a workplace uh admin can actually go in and import their floor plans uh configure different points of interest so point of Interest would be any point that can be clickable on the map so it could be a space could be a fire extinguisher could be a meeting room could be a reception could be restrooms these will be detail during the presentation that Alex will go through they'll then go through and kind of design the paths of where an employee can actually walk so to Leverage The W finding capability a direction graph will have to be traced throughout the walkable areas and then last but not least what they can do from here is also uh Define The View so they could be configuring their map and not want to show everything to the end user they can in that view editor be able to select what aspects of the map should be shown to their end users and one aspect I did not mention is the c uh feature that we've recently added to the product which I'll go through here so CAD management tool which is really providing additional support to these map admins when creating their map we have the possibility to import either as a PNG or a cad file if uh map admins decide to import by CAD a lot of the changes prior to this latest enhancement latest feature were done in um AutoCAD so a lot of the changes had to be done in AutoCAD and for some of the minimal changes we decided to have a s similar like view within Map Studio to enable them to make short small adjustments so this could be adding text changing a polyline adding another space so being able to directly do that on the cad file to make sure that that CAD file always remains the the truth of where the information is and once changes are made directly in the studio uh Alex will go through the entire detail as he go through the the really demo in an instance what once they've made these changes they can export all of this back to the cfan so always making sure that that file is the latest file and is up to date with all the data in it so just before getting started we have multiple scenarios and to better understand what we're going to go through today and understand how this could be relative to what you currently have within your instance I just want to explain a bit of the data structure behind indoor mapping and behind wsd so a lot of you if you've started implementing wsd or if you have not yet started but you have other service Now Products a lot of you have cmn location cmn is the main Foundation structure to the location what wsd tables space tables are are actually an extension to the cmn location so an extension being um you have your cmn location and to be able to map those to wsd an extra field which is the class is required to be able to convert those uh to wsd so the the hierarchy that we follow is the region site campus Building floor and space the space will be the lowest level of hierarchy and the biggest one being in the region for indoor mapping this is rather similar so this is a way of actually linking your indoor mapping data so everything that will be created through map studio will be indoor mapping data and this can be linked to wsd data uh via a space in indoor mapping will be a place a floor will also be a floor and then a building will also be a building within Indo mapping the key component here is that a campus within wsd and a campus within indoor mapping will have to be connected this is where the sync that we'll show you later on actually occurs you're actually connect an indoor mapping campus with a wsd campus so we need to ensure the naming uh convention which is used in indoor mapping is the same as in uh wsd because this this connection will happen and to ensure that both items are synced so if you have a space uh which is a meeting room A1 within wsd existing you have to ensure that you have the same coming from indoor mapping to be able to connect them and make sure that they are one unique space so that space and wsd is actually linked to a place so when an employee will search for that on the map they will be linked directly to that same space so different use cases here we can uh either start if you've got cmn location we'd recommend you classifying that information to create the wsd data and then uh doing the indoor mapping however if you don't have any existing data today in your instance what we would recommend is having everything starting from indoor mapping so that everything uh gets created either if you create them manually when you import a PNG file and then create your places manually or import a pad file ensuring that data is your kind of the system of Truth for your space uh so you can either do it any of those ways the use case we're going to focus on today is really the the the one where we don't have anything in the instance so we don't have this is a brand new campus we don't have anything in there so what we're going to show you is having all of that location hierarchy created from indoor mapping and having said that I'll now pass over to Alex to go through uh the map Studio showing you exactly how to get started with indoor mapping all right thank you uh can you see my screen right now yeah awesome so first of all you will need to make sure that both Indo mapping and workplace in the mapping are installed within the the instance uh then you will need to take a look at the map properties uh to make sure that you have the right provider uh being set up so by default here the map provider will be at known and to use IND mapping you will need to set up as IND the mapping so once you do that you can save and then you will be able to jump straight to the map studio so here we'll click on Map Studio I already have the demo data but here we'll create a brand new campus so the country will be us oops my campus will be the service now campus and in Senter CL so click on continue once it's done uh the system will ask you to verify if the data are right so I can click on edits and if I want to adjust the address for example I can do that click on continue confirm that it's right and continue and then create my first building so here it will be the building B save and by default if the the address was found uh the boundaries of the campus will be created if the address isn't found uh you will have a popup that will ask you to create the boundaries or to select the building where it's uh located so here as you can see the boundaries of my campus are created and if I click on my building uh the boundaries ACC trated as well to adjust the boundaries if you need to do so uh for example Le if the the location is wrong after putting the address you can unselect Auto compute baners and then move the points to to adjust so here it was perfectly created I will just save my boundaries maybe I will go back to the campus and increase uh the size of my boundaries so if I want to remove a point I can double click and as you can see it disappeared so let me just quickly adjust if I want to add more building later on and here we go all right so I will save my boundary and once it's done I will be able to move to flaws and fls so I can either do um I mean I can either click on manage workplace and go to fls and FL or click on continue or the Second Step where you there so by default if you go to manage workplace here I already have selected the building and I use the shortcut to go there uh but if you go to manage workplace in fls and FL you will be at the campus level you will need to make sure that you select the building because you can import files at the at the campus level but they will be visible at any level so it is recommended to import files just to add extra details such as parking lots for example if you if you want to see them uh at any any level uh but here we won't do that so we will just click on buildings and create my first floor so as Elizabeth mentioned uh you will need to make sure that all the names will match to the wsd data if you already have some here we don't so that's fine everything will be populated by the system uh but for the campus Building and Floors uh they will need to match with WD so here it's the first floor so I will upload my file uh I can change it to be the first first floor and I can save so once the floor is upload it you will be able to click on configure the first thing to do when you are there is to edit the J reference just to position your building uh on the world map so here you can click on the PIN to adjust where they are located it will be easier than to adapt the building to the wall map and then you can move it that is normal that the the building doesn't fit properly uh the shape in the world map uh just because the the the the shape was uh created using a satellite view and here we have precise edges of the building with the cat file so once it's done I will be a I just want to point out one thing it's important for people to position the the floor plan on the world map just to make sure that we get the right sense of distance so let's say when an employee is going to request a direction from one space to another if you just position the building anyhow across multiple buildings because you don't understand this is going to make them this is going to give them indication that they could be walking 15 miles or four kilometers when it's actually should be 2 meters so it's really essential to position the map correctly more or less to scale to make sure that then when the calculation is done to show them how far is to get from point A to point B is more accurate yes and all also if you if you had another uh floor you will be able to click on display uh show it here we don't so I will just uh show it right after how to do so uh and you will be able to move uh and change the opacity so here my building is properly uh located so I will click on Save and then I will be able to configure my layers and my places so basically the layers are the uh outlines of the of the drawing that you will see in AutoCAD so we do recommend that you make sure that all of your layers are properly named so people would know what they are configuring so here I will just configure the ass set so I will click on import and then will need to give it a layer type so a layer type basically gives a color uh and an order to your um to your layers so that way they they will be able to be properly displayed so here that's the assets so that would be furniture and as you can see the color just changed uh then I will import the building outlines so the layer top will be building I will just click on import and I can use uh this option to use the Flor calculation uh of the whole uh floor then I have my connectors I'll click on import so my connectors are the stairs and elevators within the within the building uh within the floor sorry so here I I know that they are pretty much room so we'll just click on room the Scout lines they are Furnitures as well room outlines they are rooms and the technical outlines they are inaccessible areas because we don't want them to be displayed to the to the employees then I will be able to configure the places so the places are the text or the blocks coming from AutoCAD here we only have texts so same goes I will C on edits and then I have the option to either import them as points or polygons uh point is just an icon uh and a text whether a polygon is a whole area uh that you will be able to click on it and I would recommend when you are importing rooms for example uh or even desks to import them as polygon and make sure that your text are on top of an enclosed uh shape uh so that way the whole um surface will be colored and you will be able to click on it to either uh search for it or to make a reservation uh later on so here that's uh the cafeteria I know that this is a room so I will associate it with a uh an outline so we'll just select the room outlines uh the name templates uh here since it's a a text I will just click there and I will be able to add the text filled um the text is just basically the text as it is written in AutoCAD if you were to have blocks uh you you would see different uh options there uh depending if you used attribute definition but that's more advanced um knowledges for the the cad expert here as the as the map uh editor uh I won't need to do to do that so since it is a text I just add the text I also have the option to add the autoc entity handle the entity handle is just a unique identifier generated botad uh I won't need to to use it but I I could if I had different rooms uh with the with the same name I would be able to use the AutoCAD entity handle just to differentiate them but here I will just use the the text field uh I could leave the title template empty uh and by doing so it will just use the templates uh but I could also just add the text here as well so I just make sure that I have the same configuration on both and then I will be able to give it a layer type so here it's a cafeteria so I just a place type sorry so I will just add the the cafeteria Place type and by doing so you see that my room just changed and I have the icon of the cafeteria and then the colors then I will do uh the same for the connectors we'll import them as polygon the layer would be also room this one puse so you can see here I just want to mention a couple of items on the pills so you can see different colors of pills so you've got the blue which are more informative you have the green which mean yes configuration has been done and validated red which means that there's uh configur configuration is missing and when something will appear red you can see on the bottom right that the St UT we blocked we then have yellow pills that will be more of them an information in terms of this is something that has been configured but we've noticed that for these specific items they're not enclosed properly or a different configuration could be done of them it's not typically blocking the import so you won't see that blocker for those uh yellow ones but yes when you do have a red pill that will block you from doing any import saying that critical piece of information is blocking the import and needs to be completed to make sure that you can move forward to next step sorry no no num um but here as Elizabeth mentioned uh you see that My Places would be created as points and not polygons even though I selected import as polygon and that's because um those text are in cated on the room out kind slay so here I will just need to change it to connector's outline or I will be able to change something in the cedor and I will show you right after so here I would just import them as room outlines that would be points uh the place type since I don't have any place type for the the connectors would be uh MK then for the desks I will import them uh as polygon as well the layer would be desk outlines uh the emergency name I know that I want to import them as points because they are mostly fire extinguisher that are located within the hallway so I will just use text my place type is fire Extinction so as you can see they just appeared as points right there my meaning room Al import them as polygons offices polygons as well and just something for for you to know why I'm I'm doing that uh is that whenever uh you have the same names across all of your file uh the configuration will be automatically filled so the only thing that you will need to do um within the the configuration would be to edit the G reference uh but I will show you when I will import the second floor and you will see that everything will be populated so here that's text they are Point as well because I know that they are within the hallway and not within the room and for restrooms they are within the room outline layer I have the right icon so here I could start the import but since I have um here six places that would be created as points I would just go through uh the C editor and do some minor changes uh to make sure that they will be imported using the room outlines layer and not the connector's outline layer so here when I select my outlines I will be able to click on the layer and move it to the room outlines so here since it's now on the other layer and I go back to the map configuration you will see that my place is now a polygon and I have five remaining places that would be created as points so I will just do the same thing for the other ones and that's it if I go back to the map configuration you can see that everything is now created as a poly and within the connector name uh configuration I don't have any message anymore if I go back on the cedor I have also several options so you can do minor changes within the floor so here if I select the room outline layer for example and you will need to make sure that you select the right layer uh so if I go there and I click on that icon I will be able to draw lines and add um rooms for example here if we created the new room I will be able to draw it and as you can see the color changed because it is located within the uh room outlines layer and I can also add a text so here I won't create a text uh within I mean I created text within the wrong layer so I will move it just to uh the office name for example and I will be able to name it office uh B1 for building one and now if I go back to the map configuration you see that my place is created as a polygon because the configuration is already done and my room was added so I also have the option to adjust if I want so if I select it back here just to be precise now if I go back you can see that my room is properly created anything you you want to add to the to the cedor elizabth I think I think you've covered it all all right yeah there are still one thing that I could mention um you have the option to uh toggle the V visibility off to a layer so here if I don't want to see my office's name uh because I need to edit something else I can turn them off uh that's just for the edition part if I turn it off it will still be visible within the map configuration and I also have the option to isolate a layer so here I can isolate all my rooms uh just to see where they are uh located so let's go back to the map configuration and once everything is uh configured I will be able to click on start import so here it tells me that I have done some changes to the to the cat file so if I want to export them to the cat file I will be able to click on the three dots there export to CAD and Export all my changes to to the AutoCAD file so whenever I need to do uh bigger edits I can keep all the changes that I've done within the C editor by exporting them but here I don't need to do that for now so I'll just click on start import and I will import a second floor so while it's loading I'll just add a floor create it and now it's imported so let's fine so I can go and upload a new file there and once it's uploaded you will see that my configuration is already done and it will use the previous configuration of my floor uh so I don't have to edit anything apart from the Dig reference so here I will position it as well I can display the flow one because it was imported I will adjust pins more and then I can zoom in just to make sure that they are on top of each others just quickly adjust and then I can save and start the import as well so here once my file is imported I can go to places and here I will be able to add more uh places to my uh floor uh just for you to know um the the places that you will create there won't be linked to the AutoCat file so whenever you will re PL the file if you added the the place um to the file you will need to make sure that you either deleted them or you added them uh using the cad editor but here I will also be able to change my icon so here I know that one of my defibrillator was imported as a fire exting because it was in the on the same uh layer than the fire extinguisher so I will be able to change my place type to the to defibrillator I can save and as you can see the icon change so all the changes all the manual changes that you will do there uh would be overwritten whenever you you repport a file so I do insist on all the changes that you've done there you either do them within the Cal store or uh you just take notes of them and whenever you need to do a bigger change within the file uh you make sure that they are added to to the cat file so all the changes that you've done there aren't reverted so here we don't really need to to do much because everything was populated by uh the cire so we can jump to the directions except if you wanted to to add something there or if there is any questions no I think everything's very clear to now all right so we can jump to the to the directions so as you mentioned as you mentioned earlier at that here I will be able to create the path of my building uh one thing I would recommend you to do uh because sometimes uh when you have connectors within the building they are on the same um they are located on the same area so here I will just create all my connectors just to link uh my floor uh between each others that's something that you will need to do uh to have the the way finding uh toggled on so here I will just create points and I will show you how to create the connectors right after that's uh I think a useful tip that you can um reuse so you will save a lot of time creating your your connectors so here I will just select my first connector click on attach connector and create a new one here I know it's a stairs so we'll name it stairs one uh the type will be stair uh I can see that I have different modes so we have the default one and we have the accessible one so for p people in a in a wheelchair for example I know that they won't be able to take the stairs so I can tole off that mode and save so that way when I will do uh Direction and select the accessible mode um I will I mean the system won't tell me to take the the stairs and I will take the the elevators instead so here I know it is an elevator so I name it elevator one type is elevator the two modes are active and I will do the same for the remaining ones so here and then just of course if you only have one floor in your building you don't have to go and set up all these connectors because they won't be used and you uh your users probably won't be able to access different floors if you haven't met them so you could draw directly your your direction graph you won't have to go through this step if as I said you only have one floor in your building exactly yeah so here for cator and lastly my stairs so once the connectors are created you have the option to copy directions from one Flor to another uh so I know that there uh my connectors are located on the same position so just click on the three dots and copy the direction I will select the FL one and I want them to be copied to the to the second floor I'll click on copy directions I will just save to make sure that I won't lose anything and as you can see it switched to the to the second floor and all my connectors are created if you also know that the the floors will repeat on the on the second one here it is the same file so I know that it will be the same um position across all the assets and and rooms I have within the floor you are also able to copy the whole directions from from one floor to another so here I will just start and draw my directions so you don't need to connect each places between each others the system will um connect the to the nearest line so you basically just need to to create uh the path where people can walk uh across the floor so I'll just quickly cut connect that area I'll will also connect the connectors so you will see the two alternative path to go from point A to point B I'll save again and since I know they are uh on the same I mean they have the same uh disposition across the floor I will be able to copy again replace the existing so here switch to the second floor and as you can see I have the same directions you also have several options when you click on one line uh you can also toggle on and off the the modes that you have so if you know that there is um small steps there and that people can't use that direction to go to the office B1 or to that meeting room uh you can also remove the accessible mod there and there so the system will connect to that line instead of that one you also have the option to make the the path One Way by clicking there if you need to do so um and you also have the option to give penalty to to your um directions uh so if you know that the that path is longer than the other one you will be able to to add seconds to to that pass as well so you can really customize the directions the the way you want it make sure that they are as accurate as they as they can be uh when it's done you can save and later on I will show you how it is uh it is used y just to add a couple of use cases around the way that a map admin can make some of these changes so let's say someone spills something there's something broken there's a maintenance going on they need to close off part of the building what the map admin can come in here and do is not just delete everything they've created is just make those segments inactive so if they're inactive that means that in real time once that is saved a user that will then request a direction from point A to point B that has to go via that space where it's being made inactive because there's a spill there's something broken they can't go by there it will automatically be updated so in real time once that change is made by the map admin to make it inactive the employee won't even see anything because it will just share with them a direction to go around the issue so they won't even see there's a problem or if there's no uh way of getting around to that specific location the direction will just not be drawn and then same for the elevator if you've got an elevator under maintenance or you want to make it inactive for any user that can't use the elevator you just make it inactive here in map save it it's going to automatically be taken into account so again when that user requested Direction it's going to take into that into account either suggest them another elevator or recommend the stairs if this is using the default mode but if also if there's a ramp so all scenarios you can just come in here make these small adjustment adjustments and that will be in real time affected so that the user will have the optimal pass shared wisdom the fastest route to get to to where they actually want to get to yeah and and also just to to to add something to that uh whenever create your connectors you will always reuse the same connectors across um each floors so you don't need to create connectors uh for each um each elevators uh in in all floors I mean you already you always uh go there and here I just copied my Direction so it is already configured but if I detach the connector for example and I know that on the second floor uh this is the elevator two that is selected here I don't need to create a new connector I will just click on attach connector and reuse the one I created um on the second floor that's also something I forgot to to mention before but yeah here I just uh deactivated uh one U one line and you will see when I will do the the direction that it won't use that line if I want to go from um that office for example uh to uh this office uh on the on the first FL but yeah once everything is configured there uh you will be able to create a view uh so the view will enable the end user to see the map so it is uh a mandatory step uh that you need to perform uh within Map Studio otherwise people won't be able to to even see the map uh within the the portal so here you have several option to copy of you from an existing campus uh here uh won't do that you can also select all content just to to pre-select uh everything or to select no content or specific content uh here we'll go with specific cents so you will see what we are selecting so first of all we are selecting the buildings uh within the the campus that we want to displayed in the view so here I only have one building with two floors so everything is uh prepopulated by default so just click on continue the layers are are all the layer types um across the the instance you can uh if you're not using the doors for example you can choose not to to use them uh here I would recommend just to use everything because it won't add anything to to the view but if later on you add new uh layers within the cat file you know that within the view everything is toggled on uh same goes for the the place types the connectors Direction modes and that's it when I will click on apply you will see that my view is now created and I will be able to customize my floor uh and my my whole campus uh the way I want so here if I select campus I can select uh where the the campus is uh precisely located so if I click on that icon will be able to populate the default latitude and longitude then I will be able to set a default Zoom when I enter the campus so here I will select 18 can also select a bing so if I want my building to open with that orientation I can do that uh and then I can do the same uh for each buildings so here I'll just go back to the default camera I'll click there open a more increased Zoom because I really wanted to focus on that uh particular building and also same goes for the bearing if I if I know that the entrance of my building is there I can change the orientation to like that so let's just adjust the camera camera sorry and then I can just save to make sure that all my changes are already there and then I can go to the layers and customize the layer types so here if I want my um my hallways to be on a different colors than the than the out of the box one I will be able to select the layer type click on fill color if I want it to be I don't know like light gray instead of being uh White I can do that can also decide to have them red and as you can see you see the the live uh changes occurring to the map here I will just um decide to use the out of the box one and I can do the same for the places so if all my uh desk I want them to to have a different color on icon I will be able to click on them make them blue for example change the opacity by default the opacity will be at 100 for uh every places so if you had Furnitures uh within a room for example that's really normal that you don't see them uh if you decided to use polygons you'll just need to change the opacity to 50% for example just to make sure that all the details within a room would be visible and that's pretty much it when once your um view is configured the way you want it uh you will be able to save the view and start start using the map so here you can click on preview and I will just enter my building and if I want to just maybe just before getting to that I wanted to add a comment about setting the different colors and so you can do that as Alex just showed you individually for every single location but if you if you're working on a ride range of multiple campuses and you've got multiple campuses to actually import and create we would really recommend having it done at the instance level so that at the instance level you can Define you can change the default settings and then not have to do this uh process every single time you import a map if you configure at the instance level you'll be able to really have it predefined so predefined when you come and load your floor plans everything will appear the same so you don't have to come and manually adjust it and if you're different people working on the map it could mean that you're using one type of blue someone else is using another blue so it won't be the same effect so really if you want to have the same uh corporate colors through out all of your buildings we do recommend doing that at the instance level yeah and that's the the two tables um I will show you right after the preview uh so you can uh spoil it a little bit but that that's fine um we'll just go so as you as you saw we configured the the layer types and the place type when we imported uh a file I mean we selected them uh and there are two tables within IND mapping uh where you will be able to perform the changes before creating a view uh before because um sorry whenever you create a view uh the view will be saved and even will if you change um the data within the those two tables uh it won't reflect to the view so I will just um quickly demo the preview and then we will jump to the place type table and layer type table so you will see what I Me by that so here I will just uh create a direction just to test so I know that my path were created uh around there so I just want to go uh from the cafeteria to if I jump to the second floor uh to that office and as you can see uh I'm now entering the building so the bearing is changing because I configure it uh differently within the view so I can test my directions so as you can see here uh if I want to go to the cafeteria to that build that um office sorry uh it will show you me the the nearest path so if you remember I decided uh to put that line as inactive so as you can see it's not taking um the elevators but the but the stairs and I also have the option uh to change the modes and test the modes that I created so if I switch to accessible it's now taking the this elevator uh to go from point A to point B instead of the stairs so that's really where you will um play around with the map uh before um letting the end user use it so you know that your um ref findings uh are properly configured configured sorry so now we can jump to uh the layer types and uh Place types table so if I search for lype here I will be able to change the the colors so if you really have a lot of campuses and you want to use like your uh color codings uh to customize the map even more you will be able to change everything there and you also have uh the place type table and here you will also be able to create uh new place types so if you remember I didn't have any uh play types for my connectors so here if I want to create a new one name it connectors use the icon uh that I should already have here I will just use the elevator for example uh I can um fill a default St color a default opacity so here I would just go for uh 0 comma 5 uh default Str with so here I'll just like to say that one the name would be connectors can also fill the color fill the opacity at 0.5 as well and the order at yeah 30 for example here I just created new icon and if I change uh for example the color of the cafeteria and I want it to be a different one so here if I want the cafeteria to be uh green for example I can update oops Yeah that's a cover and now if I go back to the map Studio I go to the S campus and I go to PES you will see that the color of my CET changed without uh changing the view and also something I can do uh here since I now have a connector's icon I can change them save and as you can see my connector was just uh added so to populate the changes to the view you will need to go back to the view editor select the default view that you to created click on the three dots and reset the view so I will just go back to the specific content just to show you uh on the layers nothing change on the places I added the connectors um Place type so as you can see connectors is now there and then I'll will just click back and continue and apply so all the changes that I've done to the view would be reverted but if I just zoom in you can see that I now have an icon for the connectors and a different color and same for uh the cafeteria so that's pretty much it for in the mapping once everything is uh set up you will need to synchronize the data with wsd uh as we mentioned before so to do so you will need to go to the to the synchronization the the Indo map wsd synchronization you will click on new to create a new synchronization and you will need to select a wsd campus so this is a step that you will need to do uh before synchronizing you will need to go to the campuses within W USD and create a new one because here we didn't have uh Data before so we will just create the service no campus so if you don't have any information Within wsd Al service now before creating this campus you'll also have to manually create that region and site right now we assume that with the use case we've got is we have already region and site created for other campuses right now we're only just creating a campus record which will be linked to our indoor mapping record so here I will add the time zone so your specific and the M campus I will just select the service now campus are just created so once it's done I can uh sub and if you have existing uh campuses you really need to make sure uh that you have the time zone filled and to do so you will need to change the view to work lener mapping campus and add the time zone so now we can resume and go back to the synchronization so I'll will create my new synchronization record I want to synchronize the listic campus I submit and as you can see I have a new record there creating for my um synchronization so just open it and what do the synchronization does is that it will uh either create or link uh all the the inter mapping items with wsd so here you can see that the operation is at create because we are using a brand new campus but for example if you had an existing campus the operation could be at link you also have the option to ignore so for example if you create a test building there and you don't want it to be imported uh right now uh or to to be synced right now with wsd you can just click on ignore and if it was already there the operation would be at keep so here we will create it we'll just click on apply next then it will uh create the the floor records maybe Alex it's worth pointing out here who has the power over who in terms of Indo mapping will have the power over wsd in terms of the naming yeah so you you will need to make sure for example um if your uh campus is already linked and you w to um change the name of the campus uh you don't need to do it within wsd you need to do it within Indo mapping because Indo mapping has the the upper hand there uh and for example if my campus is not named so is no campus anymore um within wsd but it's it is still the Serv no campus within the mapping when I will do a new synchronization uh my changes within wsd would be reverted so we do recommend that you do all the changes when it comes to to names within Indo mapping if it is already linked because endom mapping will overwrite it uh otherwise so here it is creating uh my types as well so we have WD types and in mapping types um if you need to change the type and you already have um um W data sorry uh you will need to go to the place type mapping and make sure that your wz types are link to the right uh in the M Place type that you used when you configure the map so here you can see it is at link for the connectors because it is a new one otherwise it is at keep because we already linked some campuses before so I'll just apply next and once it's done I will be able to create my spaces and then I will be able to use the map online so here that's the spaces I'll just click and apply next and you can you can also see the progress of the synchronization right there which is important when you have several spaces to be either created or linked so now uh our campuses um linked uh with wsd and by going back to the indom map W Des synchronization table uh you will see that I still have the record and the state the state is not as complete so you can always keep all the records there just to have an an history of what happened uh during the synchronization so you can see that all the operations are still there and if I were to perform another uh sync I would be able to uh compare and see what changed from one sync to to to another so now I would propose that we uh just go to the to the wsd portal so that way you you will see how it is displayed uh within the system so once you are in the in the portal uh you will just go to workplace Services brow all and then you can see the location directory so it will open in a new tab here we will select the sisma campus and we'll click on view so as you can see we are entering the building and here this is what the end user would see so you can click on uh the cafeteria for example and you can see that you can raise an issue or get a direction from the location so if we want to do um the same uh direction that we did uh we'll be able to go the second floor and select that office as well as you can see we have the same result as we had in the preview so I do uh emphasis on really testing uh your um directions within the preview so you are sure that whenever you are in the in the portal that they will be as accurate as it could be so now the the map is uh usable uh within the location directory uh we can jump to another use case uh which is the the reservation do you want to to add something to the to the way finding Elizabeth or do you want to to start over and talk about the reservation yeah we can move over to the reservation part so the reservation part you've either started configuring it you already have it available for users or you're just getting started with it one important part of information about reservation management is even before we start talking about the indoor mapping part is reservations are done in wsd in the form of reservable modules so the workplace admin the reservation admin would actually go ahead and create different reservable modules a reservable module can be a kind of a categorization of different spaces either a different type of space could be a meeting room they could have another module for desk another module for lockers or they could be different modules where they can say these are these spaces assigned to this module they could be whatever kind of spaces and then kind of Define the criteria of who can reserve them when can they be reserved so really defining the criteria around those mod around the way that an employee can interact with those different uh types of spaces that the reservation admin kind of put kind of puts a certain amount of criteria on so what we're going to show you now is really from the map that we've created we've now linked it to wsd we have that data in wsd we need to make sure for one those spaces are reservable we need to then add them to different reservable modules and then uh finally we need to make sure that the view of the map is Al also enabled because by default we have the the schedule View and a card View and we really want to show you the full experience of also adding the map that's now being created so really giving you a brief overview of how to really set up indoor mapping within the reservation uh component Alex I'll let you go ahead and kind of go guide us through how we can make those spaces reservable and how we can add them to a reservable module is that fine yep all right so we'll just go back to the to the campuses within wsd uh we will select the service now campus and we need to make sure that everything is resolvable so here I will just select my building I will make it resolvable I will make sure that my floors are also resolvable and then we will make some spaces resolvable as well so here I can add the type um so yeah I'll just make some uh tasks resolvable instead of a meing [Music] room right that should do and now we can go to the reservable module so first of all I would recommend that you change the scope uh to a reservation so workplace reservation management and then you can jump to the resolvable module if you already have module this will be this sorry since this is part of res uh the reservation experience of course for this you need the reservation management plugin so be to be able to have all of the components to reservation management you really need to have that plugin uh and not only the indoor mapping plugin just went through yep and here we can select one of our modules and here the the map view is already uh set up I will just uh show you how to do so just scroll down to the reservable views you click on edit and by default uh the map view won't be there so you just need to add the map view save and now you will be able to Leverage The the reservation within the the building that you just uh configured so we'll jump back to uh the employee Center and I will be able to uh check and Reserve uh our um spaces so if I just do a new reservation I will just select the building that I just created that's the service no campus Building B click on search and as you can see I have the card view that you might be familiar with and I now also have the map view and if I click on it it will load the map and let me see where I can reserve so you can toggle the The Legend uh but by default available is in green and book uh is in red and you also have some accessibility option uh that are patterns so if I click on the accessibility uh icon you can see that all uh the polygons just change that's also why we are insisting on uh having polygons rather than than points for reservable items and if I go back to the legend uh you can see that I have the the grid uh for the available and all the dots for uh and that's uh that's pretty much for the for the reservation any anything you you want to add that I think we've covered it all the only thing I would add is so when you saw that map open the view of how that opens that again is configured uh pre synchronization and understanding how do I want the view to actually be shown to my users so if they want if you want it to already be really open really zoomed in zoomed out that is totally up to the map admin to configure and um Define the way that they want their users to be able to view the map but I think this has been a great session Alex I think we've covered everything uh in terms of how people can get started with indoor mapping and how they can leverage some of the cad components to be able to make some some small edits but always make sure that CAD file is always up to date and then having that information pushed into wsd or matched with existing data I think we covered most of that but also show them examples of how can they show the map in the location directory and then just now showing them how it can be made available in reservation management I think this will be a first point for people really to to understand and uh serve as a point of understanding not just through some of the documents that have been published but really looking into an instance and going step by step of how this can be done this uh will help with uh many organizations and setting up their Maps so I would like to thank you very much for hosting and for going into an instance and showing us uh all of this and then if anyone has any questions feel free to reach out via the community with any questions that we can help with we be more than happy to to help with any configuration questions sure thanks everyone
