Low Code App Dev // Deep Dive (Part 7)

Import · Jun 27, 2024 · video

hello and welcome to service now's low code capability deep dive in this nine-part series we're going to take a look at the various aspects of the service now platform that Empower creators of all skill levels with the ability to rapidly build highquality scalable and easy to govern apps in this platform operations and governance section I will demonstrate how service now supports locode application development at scale opening up the platform to locode developers comes with risks that can be mitigated with the right governance model service now provides the tooling to control application sprawl maintain quality monitor developer activity and application usage app engine management center is the heart of application development governance on service now at a glance AMC provides platform administrators with information on intake collaboration and deployment requests pipeline health and active application deployments adoption and usage of applications and developer activity let's now look at where collaboration requests go and how platform administrators can manage application developers collaboration requests will be Auto approved when the invitee has all the required delegated development roles these Auto approved requests are still tracked and can be viewed in this scorecard if the invite is new to developing app apps collaboration requests will come into a work CU on the requests tab of AMC clicking into one of these requests will launch a workspace where requests can be manually reviewed and approved or rejected this gives invitees an opportunity to complete any required training or initiation into the citizen development program before approval is given intake requests are simly managed by platform administrators in Apper Management Center the workspace provides visibility over new applicational requirements coming from the organization information provided in the intake requests can be used to assess complexity compatibility and develop a capacity among other characteristics approved requests automatically provision delegated development roles on the development instance and requesters are notified that they can now begin developing their app both the application collaboration and intake workflows are fully custom iable changes can be made to various Gates such as approvals or test results New steps can be added for any regulatory or industry policies which put applications under additional scrutiny one of the benefits of applications built and deployed on the service now platform is that they naturally inherit all of the existing platform certifications we have earned our guided setup takes platform administrators through all the steps required to configure an application deployment pipeline once set up developers can submit their applications for deployment to production the deployment request workspace shows the current position of the application in the pipeline application details including a manifest of application files approvals instance scan and ATF test results and any related change requests pipelines are automatically integrated with change management and the application portfolio when an application is first deployed it becomes part of the service now cmdp Business Services can be mapped to the application incidents can be raised against the application as a configuration item if any issues or defects are found subsequent deployments will create a change request against the application to manage the potential for service interruptions or maintenance Windows required to upgrade the app or deploy fixes for defects scheduling the change will pause the deployment while the change window is closed the deployment will continue automatically once the window opens the developers tab brings distribution and activity metrics to developer administrators low code adoption across a business is broken down by department and developer metrics including growth and total and active developers clicking on a developer will open a Details page with personalized filters showing requests and deployment activity for that person by clicking through to an application I can see see a summary of the number of application users and their activity in the form of table inserts and updates if the application has any monitorable user experiences they will show below with a link to their user experience analytics dashboard the deployment history tab shows me previous and inflight deployment requests their status and a deep link to the deployment record to see a summary for all applications the custom apps tab splits application metrics by deployed state department and development activity the Tooling in app engine management center is all designed to assist platform administrators and program directors in running a low code development program but getting started can often be the biggest challenge when opening up a platform to Citizen developers our low code maturity model assists organizations to assess their Readiness for low code and helps identify their current strengths weaknesses and opportunities the model Maps developer experience behaviors and rituals developer tooling devops practices and application sophistication across a number of stages our impact team can help organizations run workshops and assessments to better plan for and execute the organizational change management associated with commencing a low code program thanks for watching and join us for part eight of our series as we explore application security
