To me, community is...

Import · Jun 24, 2024 · video

So it was early 2020 when I got my first remote ServiceNow
developer job. and even better, my first daughter was on her way. six months later, my daughter
Linda was born. But we were feeling so alone. I had no in-person colleagues, let alone an office where I could go and see anyone. Our relatives were hundreds of miles away and we were social distancing, anyways. The one community I consistently had,
though, was a group of random ServiceNow developers from around the world
that I was keeping in touch with. I showed them pictures. They gave me new parent tips. We shared memes about no sleep and I gave them the woes of me and my wife trying to figure out the problems
we were having with the breast pump
that the hospital gave us. You see, community to me is a breast pump. Not the one we were complaining
about to our online friends, but the breast pump
that showed up on our doorstep. These random
people who I had never met in person had purchased a hands free mobile breast pump for my little growing family. I remember crying when I had found out
what they had done for us. And while in many ways
my family were physically apart from people during that time, we never actually felt alone. So yeah, community to me
is that breast pump and I will love them forever. And look at my girl now.
