DYK In form analytics
[Music] Chuck tamasi here with another did you know this time to improve user experience our use case this time is that we have this older app that's still using the platform view not a workspace and the owner wants us to add a chart to it now the app is used to help coordinate parties meetings meetups whatever one or more events each with one or more attendees this one is a podcaster meet up and some details about it the attendee information is in the related list at the bottom it shows us who was invited whether they responded as attending or not and much more what we've been asked to provide is a chart on the form to give us a quick glance at the status of the data in the list now at this point we're going to assume that you know how to put together a standard report if not we have some great tutorials on basic reports and dashboards suffice it to say we've already built a donut chart to show the RSVP status of the records on the attendee table but there's a problem it shows all RSVPs across all events and our podcast Meetup only has 30 invites sent so these numbers don't show us the information for this specific event that's okay we can do that with something called inform analytics we'll start by going to the form for the event since that's where we want to display the chart next we'll use the form menu to configure form layout not form design not form Builder form layout yes the oldest method of Designing form layout on your form still has something to offer we can use form designer or form Builder to change the layout later but they don't have the ability to create new inform analytics visualizations except from form layout from the available column we'll pick star chart and we'll place it here representing the bottom of the left part of the top section we can optionally give it a label for fun we'll call it report and click save if we don't give it a label we're going to have a tough time modifying it later here's where things get fun we have to configure the details for this chart by clicking the link configure chart first we picked the RSVPs donut chart we saw earlier next we have to Define how the event record and the attendee record are related now if we're familiar with reference Fields this might seem straightforward we think we might pick the system ID here and Link it with the event record here we try that we see the data looks fine but there's this error telling us that the society field isn't on the form because for some reason we can only use fields that are displayed let's right click on the report label and choose configure chart to go back to that definition this time we'll use the name of the event and dot walk to the event name on the attendee record after we update chart looks looks great and if we go to another event we see it's accurate there too now using the name is okay as long as we don't have any duplicate names however we may want to use something more unique like a number field as long as it's displayed on the form with that we now know how to place and configure a chart on a form in the platform View using in analytics remember if you've got an idea for did you know record it block it so socialize it and use the hasht service now Dyk to be part of the community thanks for watching [Music]
