How Yaimy Narito went from the military to an exciting ServiceNow career
Meet Yaimy Narito. She's an Associate Engineer at Cask, a ServiceNow Elite partner headquartered in San Diego, California. She's a remarkable person, and the story of how she came to work at Cask is truly inspiring—a perfect example of how someone with passion and commitment can RiseUp with ServiceNow, no matter what their background.
Yaimy is a military spouse who spent 22 years supporting her husband in his military career and raising their three children. Then, as her husband approached retirement and her children grew up, Yaimy decided it was time to do something for herself. So, she went to college and graduated with a business administration degree with a minor in cybersecurity in 2019.
In 2020, after Yaimy and her husband returned to Texas from a posting in Germany, she started to look for a job. But the search didn't go well. First, she paid out of her own pocket for a six-month cybersecurity boot camp, which she successfully completed. Armed with her new cybersecurity certificate, she searched for a job for seven months without any results. Then, she went on a site reliability engineering (SRE) training program that promised her placement with a company, but nothing ever materialized.
At this point, Yaimy was frustrated and desperate. She says she was willing to take any job—even if it was minimum wage.
Then, everything changed for the better. Yaimy's husband, who was one year away from retirement, told her about the DoD Skillbridge program, which gives service members and their dependents civilian work experience prior to retiring through industry-specific training. ServiceNow is an active partner in DoD Skillbridge, offering an intensive 16-week virtual training program designed to lead to a fulfilling career in the ServiceNow ecosystem. For Yaimy, this seemed like the perfect opportunity at the right time, so she applied and was accepted.
Yaimy says she was both nervous and excited. There was a lot of material to cover, with something new every week. But she was determined to succeed, and that determination delivered great results. Yaimy did so well that she completed her Certified System Administrator (CSA) exam two weeks before the program ended, giving her a valuable qualification she could take into the job market.
After the program was completed, ServiceNow gave Yaimy additional assistance with her job search, including help with finding opportunities, her resume, and interview techniques. She also became active in the ServiceNow community and on LinkedIn, and even received an invite to attend Knowledge 2023 — which she says was a wonderful opportunity to learn more and make contacts.
Then, one of her contacts who worked at Cask told her about an open role there and said she would be a great fit. Yaimy reached out to the recruiter, explaining that her contact had recommended the role to her. After two successful interviews, Yaimy was offered the position and accepted — just one day before she went to Knowledge. Perfect timing!
Yaimy says that becoming part of the ServiceNow ecosystem changed her life. Instead of stress and despair, she now feels it's her time to blossom — it's where she was always meant to be. And she's made great strides since joining Cask, including becoming a Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS) for ITSM and a Certified Application Developer (CAD). Next up is her CIS for Security Incident Response, which she's working on right now.
Yaimy sums up her approach by saying that whenever you pour your heart and soul into something, you're going to succeed. Keep moving forward, don't stagnate, and you can change your life just like she has.
Congratulations Yaimy! You're a shining example of what happens when you RiseUp with ServiceNow!
