Technology Workflow Washington D.C. Release - SAM Shadow SaaS Analytics
[Music] hello everyone and welcome to the now platform Washington DC release features just to do a quick intro here my name is Carson Jones and I'm a solution consultant here at service now and I specifically focus on our it Asset Management Solutions and today I'm going to be focusing on some enhancements to our software ass management solution from our Washington DC release in this presentation may contain some forward-looking statements that reflect the current beliefs of service now and are based on the current information available in these forward looking statement should not be relied upon when making purchasing decisions so from service now's Washington release we've introduced ways to identify any unmaned SAS spr within our customers environment you know it's one thing to know about SAS applications deployed in the environment but what about those SAS applications that we don't know about how can we ensure that we have full Discovery capabilities of all the different SAS software deployed and historically you know it's hard to scrape the web to figure out what users are actually going out and and purchasing software under the radar and service now has and still does have a software spin detection tool within Sam that helps customers identify by any Shadow it spin that's going on by combing through that expense data and then comparing that to what's actively being managed within software ass management because that helps us get to and capture where that shadow it spin's going on but we took it a step further with this new product that works hand inand with service Nows it operations management and now our customers are able to leverage and lean on service Nows agent client collector to capture where there is any you know unmanaged software in the environment and expand upon those Discovery capabilities to help mitigate that SAS bra and with this we're also going to be getting to gauge on the total number of users the login information p in meaningful usage so how much time do they spend on a particular application and even who was it and then lastly knowing if an application is managed or unmanaged so with that being said I'm going to go ahead and jump into the instance and walk through what this looks like on the now platform so now we're in the instance here and I'm going to kick things off today within this software asset overview workspace and this is really going to be that control center to help manage all of our software assets on one single painted glass where we get to see things like hey what's that overall software spend across the board and starting to get a better gauge on compliance with our vendors but from here I'm going to talk through service Nows SAS spin detection tool and how we can start to discover and manage any Shadow it spin that's going on with the organization so from this space I'm going to go Ahad and jump into our licens users workspace and as we're pulling this up as I mentioned we've been able to manage that shadow it problem in the past with service analys software spin detection tool and we still have it on the platform but now we're taking in the approach a bit further by diving into some of that you know browser extension data and within this license used workspace we have this reports Tab and as we come in here we can see okay here's this report for Shadow SAS analytics from browser activity so as I'm pointing this up this is really where we can start the process of capturing where there's Shadow a t-pin going on for our SAS products and within this space really the goal is to to call out and understand okay what SAS applications are currently being managed or not being managed the same is going to go for for monitored because this is going to help us understand where that shadow it P spins going on so I'll use GitHub for example here but we can see that this is not managed within software Asset Management it is monitored here's the total amount of users that have actually gone out and used this application or created an account here's a total assessed time that they've used GitHub for and even jumping in and get a little bit further here of understanding again the total assess time what domain we're pointed from and even diving into that usage data that we're Po in from the SAS application so really the goal here is to understand one what's not being managed within software and management that's going to help us identify where that shadow it spins on and now we can potentially you know put a team together to go out to reach out to particular C Center or employee and say hey are using this application Etc and from a SAS perspective we could even take this a step further and jump into our software asset analytics workspace here which is where we manage all of our sass products on a single pan of glass but from a shadow it perspective now we can call out and say okay now we understand that there's 11 unmanaged SAS applications out there in our environment versus the three that are actively being managed so all things to be called out ahead of time and now we can start to to manage those a bit better and really capture and tackle that shadow it problem so from here what I'm going to do is jump back to the slides here but all this is really with the idea of managing that shadow it spin going on within the organization and again getting a better idea of what's actually going on out there in your environment so this is going to conclude the highle overview for the new software ass management Sam shadow sass analytics from browser activity feature on the now platform for the Washington DC release of software as management you can find a full list of our new products and features on on our product
