How Lonnie Dupree went from jobs she hated to living her dream at ServiceNow
ServiceNow is for everyone, especially if you’re looking for a second career or a second chance. That’s why when you RiseUp with ServiceNow, you open up a world of new possibilities—a fulfilling, rewarding career doing the best work of your life.
Just ask Lonnie Dupree. She’s a wife and mother who spent her early career in what she describes as an endless web of customer service roles—jobs she truly hated. About ten years ago, she was working at what she calls the worst company ever, but there was a small ray of light. A quote hung on the wall that read, “The key to success is being ready when opportunity presents itself.”
Lonnie never forgot that quote, and finally the opportunity did present itself. One day, her sister walked through her door and asked if she wanted to take a “coding class” with her. Lonnie said yes and signed up. But, when she started, she discovered it was a NextGen ServiceNow Fundamentals course, not a coding class at all. Although she knew nothing about ServiceNow, she kept on, and her interest grew.
About halfway through the course, Lonnie heard about the possibility of an apprenticeship with ServiceNow. One of the apprenticeship categories was technical writing, which seized her interest. She says she always enjoyed writing and was told in college that she was a good writer. It seemed like a perfect opportunity, so she applied.
After being interviewed, Lonnie was accepted for the apprenticeship. She was a huge success—so much so that ServiceNow offered her a full-time role as a technical writer once she completed the apprenticeship. Her opportunity had finally come, and her skills and motivation meant she was more than ready.
Now, Lonnie has the career she always dreamed of. She says that ServiceNow is amazing, and she loves being here. According to Lonnie, she doesn’t feel like an employee. Instead, she’s part of the company—a valued member of an incredible team that makes a real difference for customers. And she now has financial freedom and the flexibility to be the great mom she wants to be. She’s passionate about what she does and is looking forward to future opportunities at ServiceNow.
Way to go, Lonnie! We’re glad we found you as well.
