How Charles Muhlbach went from a successful Army career to a bright future with ServiceNow
People around the world are building rewarding second careers when they RiseUp with ServiceNow. People like Charles Muhlbach, who has just started an exciting new job as a ServiceNow Developer with a ServiceNow partner.
Charles joined the U.S. Army when he was 18. He had a successful career in the Army, including roles maintaining M1 Abrams tanks, working as an Army recruiter, and as a geospatial intelligence imagery analyst. Oh, and he was also a sniper. It was quite the journey in the Army—including postings in Germany and South Korea—but after 12 years it was time to return to civilian life.
Charles decided he wanted to pursue a career in technology, but he only had basic technical knowledge. So, he looked for tech programs that didn’t need extensive programming knowledge or years of experience. That’s when he discovered ServiceNow.
His first step was to enroll in the Welcome to ServiceNow course. Charles says it was eye-opening, especially because of all the capabilities ServiceNow has to offer. He was so enthusiastic that he decided ServiceNow was exactly what he wanted to do. He applied for the ServiceNow NextGen externship program, and waited anxiously to see if he would be accepted. He was!
Charles explains that the opportunity changed his life. He says that the program took him from a basic level of understanding to having the well-rounded skills he needed to be a ServiceNow technical consultant. The course covered all the key topics, including ITSM, ServiceNow administration, and ServiceNow application development, giving him the strong foundation he needed to pursue a rewarding ServiceNow career. At the end of the program, he successfully passed the ServiceNow Certified Administrator exam, giving him an in-demand qualification that opened up opportunities for him in the ServiceNow ecosystem.
Within a month of completing his NextGen externship — which he took while he was still in the Army — he secured his current position as a ServiceNow Developer at SOFTact Solutions, a ServiceNow partner headquartered in Georgia. He’s incredibly excited about his new career, and says he has big plans for the future. He wants to evolve into a management role, leveraging the skills he developed as a leader in the Army. But that doesn’t mean he’s leaving his love of technology behind. He also wants to become a ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect, and is setting his sights on becoming a Certified Master Architect further down the road.
Charles says that none of this would be possible without ServiceNow NextGen. He praises the well-designed courses and dedicated people that run the program, explaining that it gave him an incredibly smooth transition out of his successful Army career to a bright and rewarding career path in the civilian world with ServiceNow.
That’s what happens when you RiseUp with ServiceNow. You unlock a career with virtually unlimited potential, no matter what your existing skills and experience.
Congratulations Charles!
