Closing CMDB Data Gaps with Custom AI Agents Episode 4

ServiceNow Community · Feb 25, 2026 · video

In this fourth and final episode of our series, we build the second AI Agent, one that uses CI naming conventions to automatically populate CMDB attributes at scale. Building on the framework established in Episode 2, this episode focuses on two new components: a custom Now Assist Skill that takes a plain-language description of a naming convention and generates a compatible JavaScript regular expression, and a scripted AI Agent tool that finds all matching CIs and updates the specified attribute. Together with the common tools built in Episode 2, these components are wired into a complete AI Agent that guides the user through the entire enrichment process conversationally. In this episode we cover: - A review of the use case and solution architecture - Building a custom Now Assist Skill to generate a JavaScript regular expression from a plain-language naming convention description - Building a scripted AI Agent tool to find matching CIs and update the specified attribute - Building the AI Agent that orchestrates the process end to end - A live demo of the naming convention-based enrichment agent in action 0:00 - Introduction 0:55 - Review 4:30 - Tools 6:19 - AI Agent 7:19 - Demo creation of custom Now Assist skill for creating a regular expression 12:55 - Demo creation of an AI Agent 17:23 - Demo creation of scripted tool directly in AI Agent 21:06 - Recap Supporting blog post with code snippets and additional resources: https://www.servicenow.com/community/cmdb-blog/closing-the-cmdb-data-gap-with-purpose-built-ai-agents/ba-p/3450078
