How Teresa Ko is starting a fulfilling new IT career with ServiceNow NextGen
People around the world are rising up with ServiceNow. For anyone who can’t imagine their window of opportunity is still open, we’re here to tell you that it’s not just open—but wide open.
Teresa Ko is a perfect example. She spent more than 20 years in customer service in Australia, both as an agent and running contact centers. Then, about four years ago, she decided to leave customer service and strike out on her own by opening a restaurant. Unfortunately, COVID-19 brought her new venture to a crashing halt, leaving her asking herself what she wanted to do with the rest of her career.
Teresa had always loved IT—and even taught herself to code—but she had no formal IT qualifications. She decided she wanted to pursue her passion but didn’t know how to break into the IT industry. Then she discovered she could unlock an exciting new IT career with the ServiceNow NextGen program, which opens up employment opportunities in the ServiceNow ecosystem for underrepresented talent. The program allows motivated people like Teresa to build critical entry-level technical and business skills through a combination of virtual or in-person training and real-world experience at a host employer.
Now, Teresa is six months into a 12-month NextGen traineeship. She spends one day a week in class while working the rest of the week at Thirdera, a leading ServiceNow partner with offices in Australia and around the globe. She says she’s really glad she signed up and that the program is doing exactly what it’s designed to do—giving her an opportunity to build an IT career later in life.
Teresa’s particularly happy about how the program gives her real-life experience working with experts, saying the combination of classes and working at Thirdera is fantastic. She’s also enthusiastic about how quickly the program is bringing her up to speed. Within a year, she’ll have the skill she needs and an established relationship with her host employer—far faster than if she went to university or signed up for another apprenticeship program. Teresa says it’s a wonderful starting point for anyone wanting to get into IT.
Teresa is well on her way to achieving her ambitions, building an exciting ServiceNow career and unlocking her true potential. She’s confirmed her passion for software development and has decided that’s where she wants to focus going forward. In fact, she recently built a portal for a real Thirdera customer, which has given her a tremendous sense of accomplishment. Teresa sums it all up by saying she now looks forward to getting up in the morning.
And you can do the same. It’s time to go from dreaming about a new career to living it. To pursue your calling, changing not just what you work on but how you feel about work. To discover a place where you can thrive, where your talents are needed, and where your passion is appreciated. It’s your time to rise up with ServiceNow.
RiseUp with ServiceNow.
