Visibility to Google Cloud/IBM Cloud/Pivotal Cloud Foundry - Apr store release update

Import · Apr 17, 2019 · article

The ServiceNow out-of-band discovery content release offering is less than a year old but has already made a huge impact on deriving customer outcomes. The ServiceNow ITOM Discovery product team launched an out-of-band release of Discovery patterns on June 14th, 2018. Decoupling the Discovery pattern release from regular ServiceNow releases has helped partners/customers get faster content updates from published store applications.

What's new with Apr content release :

Visibility to IBM Cloud and Google Cloud

Multi-cloud adoption is accelerating on a global scale. Hybrid cloud solutions successfully link in-house systems with the new provider-based “as a service” offerings. The growth of multi-cloud adoption amongst businesses is expected to increase exponentially over the next 12 months, with Gartner predicting that multi-cloud will be the common strategy for 70% of enterprises by 2019.

Multi-cloud visibility to IaaS/PaaS/FaaS cloud services in the ServiceNow CMDB is the top request we hear from our customer base. Visibility to the cloud is imperative to IT-Ops/Cloud-Ops use cases like:

  1. Security: This common use case involves getting visibility into compute resources. For example, cryptojacking attacks surging against enterprise cloud environments.
  2. Software Asset Management: Any licensable enterprise software deployed in the cloud should be tracked for compliance. For example, deploying the Oracle database on an EC2 instance.
  3. Application portfolio management / Service Mapping: Track cloud-native apps and track application dependencies.
  4. IT Service management: Incident / Problem / Change use cases are still valid in the cloud.
  5. Visibility to cloud cost & optimization: Track cloud resources with tags to avoid wasting unused cloud resources.

The ServiceNow Discovery solution supports visibility into AWS/Azure services (or resources?) via service accounts. With the April 2019 out-of-band Discovery content release, ServiceNow offers support to IBM Cloud (Bluemix) and Google Cloud IaaS services. This release enables customers to get visibility into critical cloud services from IBM cloud & Google cloud, such as compute, network and load balancers.

Visibility to Pivotal Cloud Foundry

Container platforms are a hot topic in the enterprise. They represent a top investment theme in the executive stories of digital transformation. Cloud Foundry continues to have a dedicated loyal group of enterprises using their platforms to run PaaS containers. The April store release offers patterns which detect cloud foundry cluster, organization, quota, route, space, services, applications and other critical elements from the PCF layer.
