CreatorCon Hackathon Information
hey everyone my name is Brad Tilton and I'm a developer advocate with a developer program here at ServiceNow its hackathon day and I'd like to give everybody some information about the weekend where to find resources and how to get help we're gonna start here at the creator con hackathon landing page the URL for this page is hack now service - now.com slash creator con we're also linking to this from all sorts of places like the knowledge and creator con websites but this is a good place to start for the hackathon we have a lot of information about the hackathon in here including how to register but one of the things I want to talk most about today is the hackathon forum so we have a community forum on the ServiceNow community dedicated to the creator con hackathon and so I'm gonna load that page here and we're just going to walk through a little bit what's what's in this community already and what you can use it for so we have this featured content at the top here this is a great place to start I'm going to click into this and look at the resource index so this is really just an index of all of the resources we have already published to the community here we've got the details and FAQ is this is basically the same as the landing page I'll go ahead and click into the timeline the timeline is going to give you an overall timeline for the weekend and how the judging's going to work so we can see that the hackathon starts at 5 p.m. Eastern and all of the times that we publish are going to be an Eastern we know this is a global event but we also know well I have figured out that if you try to include all of the time zones whatever you're writing becomes unreadable so there are a couple of places where we break it down into different time zones but for the most part just figure out what the what the offset is between Eastern Time and your time zone and then you can kind of use that to figure out are happening so we're starting at 5:00 p.m. Eastern we're gonna run through the end of the day at 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Sunday and then on Monday we're gonna have our judging teams taking a look at the application pitches and they'll be scoring every single application that gets submitted and then we will use those scores and we will crown a category winner for each of the five categories that your applications have to be submitted in then with all of the category winners we will let them know early in the day on Tuesday and then on Wednesday morning those category winners are going to do live pitches to our executive judging panel and then that judging panel will crown an overall grand prize winner so that's all detailed here I'm gonna go back to our other post so the timeline that was the timeline we've also got categories so like I said every app has to be submitted within one of five categories the first four categories are verticals healthcare telecom manufacturing and banking and the fifth one is social good we have some ideas to get you started and a couple of the verticals just some some business problems or things that some of our experts think are right ripe for digital transformation so we have those detailed here so we also have a way to find a team or team member by the time we're doing this video you should already have your team's and then a really important one here is how do I get help so there's a couple of different ways to get help during the hackathon and you may need help with a few different things you may need some plugins activated you may have locked yourself out of your instance and need some help with that maybe you know you're running into a technical roadblock maybe you're not sure whether you should include something in your app or not or you need some help figuring out what to put in your pitch video all of those things are things that our gurus can help with so we have two different ways to get help from our gurus and our hackathon team the first is just posting your question to this creator Kahn hackathon 2020 community we will have people monitoring it live a lot of us are already subscribed to this so I get an email anything anytime anybody posts anything on the community so we'll have people monitoring it pretty much around the clock all weekend where you should get somebody to respond to you within a couple of hours we've also got five different to our guru sessions here and this is one area where we did list out some different time zones we have at least I think four gurus on each of these sessions where you'll be able to either log into the zoom call and you know wait until it's time and then you can ask a question or we will also have people live monitoring the community so during these guru times you can still use the community for help and you should get a much quicker answer so we're gonna post the zoom meeting link here shortly but this how do I get help article is the best place to start if you need some help we have the first Guru session starts when the hackathon starts and then the next one is going to be the beginning of the day in India and we should have at least a couple of guru sessions that are friendly to pretty much every time zone all right we've also got some information on judging and doing your pitch video so we have our judging criteria here and then we have reiterated our logistics on how the judging is going to work and then we also have you know some some guidelines for how to do your pitch video in your application submission so you'll record a short three-minute pitch video you can go up to five but we are we are wanting you to state two three minutes anything over five minutes we're not even going to watch so definitely keep it below five minutes we have some guidelines in here on you know how you should what you should include and all of those things and we'll also be posting some some more concrete examples on this article as well but this is a good place to go if you you know aren't sure what to do with your pitch video and submitting your application and then lastly we're gonna be doing a few live stream shows for the hackathon so hackathon kicks off with live coding happy hour that's probably already happened by the time you're watching this video and then we're gonna do a couple of scheduled live shows one on Saturday and one on Sunday and then we'll also be doing some live streaming Andrew and I and other people that might want to drop in over the weekend where we're gonna have our own little hacking projects that we'll be working on and then we encourage you to do your own live streaming so if you're I know there are some teams already that are going to be streaming their hacking through the whole event if you're gonna do that and you'd like to send us a link to the stream we'll go ahead and post that on this article and feel free to check out each other's live streams we will probably be dropping into some other people's live streams and in either or both of the shows so stay tuned for that all right and then we also have our official hackathon rules so I would encourage everyone to take a pass through the Official Rules written by our lawyers here there are some some things in here that you might want to to note but definitely read through those and and make sure that you know you're in you're in compliance here all right and that is this hackathon index again this is probably the best place to start if you need anything for the hackathon and then if you can't find what you're looking for you can always post a question here in the hackathon community we already have a lot of questions here and we are trying to be as prompt as possible and replying to them so this is the best place to go for that well I hope everybody has a great time hacking this weekend I can't wait to see the awesome applications that you all are going to create and the business real-world business problems that everybody's going to solve Thanks
