Crossfuze's Microsoft Intune to ServiceNow Integration
hello this is mark brown shadow and this session is on cross use service now to in tune integration with me I have Joel Joel I and he's going to provide our overview information in demo today so Joel first question I have is really what was the use case being addressed with the in tune integration yeah the the major use case was really getting company's assets into the ServiceNow platform you know at the same time right it's populating it seemed to be but I think the main focus is really getting a solid source of your inventory into ServiceNow as a part of the asset management process gotcha so it's really feeding both sides whether it be the asset management and the configuration management component within ServiceNow yep exactly that you know the problem we see a lot of times the clients would be getting their end user computing devices into the platform right a lot of times people might have tools or systems that are tracking say their infrastructure but the end-user devices like laptops and desktops can be a little bit tougher but a lot of clients do you have things like guess you see a man in tune and in tune was always the oddball it didn't have a great integration to get into ServiceNow but now it does awesome so what specific capabilities or data does it bring in from in tune so with our integration you natively it's gonna bring in kind of two core sets of devices it's gonna bring in computers so those being the desktops and laptops but then it also brings in mobile devices cell phones would be the biggest ones so those are the two that we're gonna be bringing in out of the box of this integration awesome and if there's more information within in tune outside of those two areas can it still bring those in as well absolutely yep behind the scenes you know it's just using native ServiceNow technology just so just import sets and transform apps so you can obviously scale that if we have different types of devices you want to bring in perfect so let's take a look and see it live so I'm going to turn over the screen to you okay all right so let's kind of look under the hood here so the integration works off of records that we've called in tune profiles so the cool thing about these profiles are that they allow you to scale your integration to include either multiple instances of in tune or just separate profiles for separate device types so again out of the box we're going to have two profiles for the two different types of devices we're going to bring in the core would be just the main computer devices and then the second one would be mobile devices and inside these profiles all we really are doing here is just specifying integration hooks into into so it's going to be kind of standard rest information that you'll see with other rest integrations you'll see a client ID and then a client secret and you'll see on the right hand side we're also specifying a schedule which is going to be the executor that's triggering the integration on a daily weekly or ad-hoc basis and then the import set table that's going to receive the raw data from in to now we have instructions of how to do both pieces of this integration not only just the ServiceNow installation but also how to get the information you need out of azure so once you get into you asher and you're able to set up and grab the client ID and client secret will slap those into the Intune profile here and then what we've done is we've created a a quick test so you can quickly run test import to make sure the data and the connection itself is working properly so in case you fat fingers say the client secret this will tell you before writing a full-blown Intune integration and at the same time all you know companies have have hundreds and thousands of computer devices and you don't always want to run the full integration all the time let's Alyssa Liao's you just run and pull five records back to make sure again the data is looking good we have our own logs marked into this application as well so you can quickly see exact time stamps of when something happened if anything's going wrong you know there's a property to toggle debugging on and off so I'm going to do is after writing the test I'm going to go back to my profile I'm going to click the related link imports that table so we can see the raw data and here we go so we returned five records back from Intune containing just computer devices so we're taking a look it looks like everything is coming back from model manufacturer of serial number as well as the assigned to user now we can also take a look at the transform map that's hooked into these different profiles so again the final related link underneath an in tune profile will be transform apps if I open up our transform app we can kind of see the details here and what everything looks like you know as we touched on a little bit earlier the nice part is it's easy to scale this so if there's custom attributes you want to add from in tune maybe something doesn't come standard out of the box with our integration you can quickly add to it so there's easy ways to add field Maps if you're familiar with the transform app functionality and ServiceNow very easy to add fields into your integration and then similarly if you notice on the profiles all we do is specifies the import set table and the transform app so again if you wanted to create your own custom one for a different scenario or a different set of devices again very easy to scale that as far as this integration drill is they're scheduling asked back to it or yep so that's a good question so the scheduled field here will let you define your scheduled script execution or the scheduled job that's going to run this so by default this is going to run daily and you can specify it you know if you want to more run more frequently less frequently you can you can set this trigger all on your own but this scheduled job is what's triggering the integration awesome so I do have flexibility from that perspective yep and again the nice part about this integration is it's very little work in the weeds right we don't have to test you know touch any arrest messages we don't have to touch any script logic you're really just adjusting the profiles and maybe adjusting this scheduled job that's it well perfect any other things that you want to mention regoing this integration I don't think so again that the nice part about this is the the profiles allow you to scale so for instance you know for cross your standpoint if we're gonna hook into some of our managed customers or managed service customers we can quickly add profiles for these different companies hook into their their as your instances and pull the data quickly without affecting anyone else so that's kind of power behind this integration awesome okay well I appreciate all the information on the integration how the information is able to get thanks for your time today thank you
