TechByte - What's new in Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) in Paris
all right let's get right into ppm now since we have a half an hour there is so much information to um review through that we're releasing in paris but i really wanted to highlight the things that have resonated with our team internally at servicenow as well as our customers that are um having different um problems and challenges that we know are going to provide additional solutions for you um as you progress forward through the remainder of the year and and forward and again lots of things to think about as we know right now is budget time so what kind of things can you be utilizing if you're going to be rolling out paris in the upcoming months to months um some things that you know can be resources for you as part of that so because there is so much information to cover today i will be focusing a lot on ppm so our project's portfolio management and then i'll do a couple highlights for agile and also making sure we cover some for application portfolio management as well but here you can see with paris for ppm we have a long list of different um items that will be part of the release so we'll start with scenario planning now project portfolio managers have a hard task to balance their project demand backlog with available financial and human resources while at the same time delivering maximum value to the business stakeholders so what's really fantastic about this feature is it enables our portfolio managers to actually simulate multiple investment scenarios so where each scenario can have a different set of project and budget amounts so as i was just noting budget season is here what are some things and tools that can be helping you and here we can see that as we compare scenarios against the objectives they're trying to accomplish such um such as oh we're um we're trying to accomplish maximizing the roi i was looking for roi i was grasping for it my friends and or increasing customer satisfaction so i want to give you a couple examples and in that process we'd be able to prove the best scenario and they're on tracking that progress for these projects that is scenario planning and here something else i wanted to noted note also very important is as a customer there's really no easy way to look at and i found this um in my prior roles as well no easy way to look at all the projects in the backlog in one place and be able to prioritize them in the context of teams and budgets so i'm sure you may or may not be able to relate to this but needing to figure out trade-offs while approving those projects to ensure you're delivering that maximum value to your business also to invest in these resources both as we're looking at it from a financials and human perspective in the right projects we want to make sure that we're meeting our organization's objectives and how can we enhance the portfolio and we can do so through the portfolio workbench which allows our portfolio managers to do three well it's more than three things but the significant three points that i have found and in discussing this with my peers and customers to be most valuable are being able to review those projects and demands in your backlog being able to simulate multiple scenarios to find out the best one and then being able to compare and approve the best scenario that aligns with your organization's objectives we're just kind of showcasing some of the features be happy to give you a live demo on this too extremely impressive and so helpful now as we move on strategic spend tracking so as we look to um being able to ensure the spend is aligned to the strategy it's really allowing our application portfolio owners and all of you enterprise architects that may have had little support in tools for standardizing the process of registering and decommissioning business applications in addition the work and requests that enterprise architects are asked to do are managed in an ad hoc fashion and i can say this because i've been there and and and seen this live so really understanding that what what i know that servicenow is providing to you is really that out of the box workflows to support those processes all right as organizations need to manage and maintain accurate and current business application inventories or application registers to understand what it investment invests in so as we talk to apm application portfolio management self-service workflows provide a solution to onboard new business applications in the cmdb with an approval workflow being able to create a workflow with that out of box project template to decommission and retire business applications being able to support the architecture review board with processes by providing the enterprise architect team a workflow to manage the work they do so we have you can see in the bottom right corner here is just a quick snapshot of the dashboard which allows your executives and portfolio managers to track progress against corporate strategies and goals planned and actual investments into these strategies and goals and also projects which are aligned and those non-aligned to your strategic direction all right on to the idea manager dashboard so here how do we manage that entire idea pipeline and if you've been out to our communities you know that we use our innovation portal and it is an incredible tool so as we're looking to how do we grasp innovative ideas how are we able to consolidate that pipeline of ideas across our organization how are we able to track ideas converted from demands to epics to projects and other task sites and then viewing the trending submission to find that next great idea you
