How To: Monitor your critical Services with ServiceNow Monitoring – Part 1
hello and thank you for joining the it workflow how to model your critical services with servicenow monitoring part one this is the first part in a multi-part series around the servicenow agent client collector also known as the servicenow monitoring agent in this video i will show you how to prepare your mid server for the agent client collector application as well as deploy your first agent client collector client on a windows server the first step is to set up the agent client collector listener this will deploy a web service to the mid server that allow agent client collector clients to connect to and send events through the mid server make sure that you copy down the endpoint information as the clients will require this during the acc setup if you aren't already using servicenow operational intelligence you may want to enable that feature as well for metric collection just click set up operational intelligence if you are already using operational intelligence you may see an error that the mid server is already part of a distributed cluster for oi now let's open up the machine that we want to install the agent client collector on the first machine that i'll install my agent client collector on for monitoring is actually my servicenow mid server to get the agent client collector installation files we can simply open a web browser and go to the servicenow instance from the browser to download the files we'll look for the agent client collector we'll open up the installation instructions and we'll download the windows installation file you can deploy the acc with any deployment tool that you may have in your environment for example microsoft sccm for deploying a windows msi file now let's install the agent client collector msi file we will now utilize the information about the web service listener that we captured in the previous step now the agent client collector is installing we can validate the installation of the aging client collector in two ways first way is to check that the agent client collector service is running on the machine in which you just installed the agent client collector the second would be to check in the instance for your agent client collector agents we now see our newly deployed agent client collector agent inside the instance if we open up our agent will notice that we have an option to run discovery against that agent when we click run discovery that'll run a very basic discovery to bring in information about the agent to populate the cmdb if we take a look at our newly discovered server we'll notice that the agent client collector has populated a minimal amount of information about that server inside of the servicenow cmdb running this discovery is also a good way to validate that the agent client collector is working as intended thank you for joining our it workflows how to admire your critical services with servicenow monitoring part one please stay tuned for the rest of the parts of this video and subscribe to our channel thank you have a great day
