[K15 Session Review] This Workbench Demands Your Attention
Presenter: Anthony Okumura, Product Manager ServiceNow
Session title: Demand Management Workbench - a New Way to Work
I spoke with Anthony Okumura today after his presentation on Demand Management to let him know how cool I thought his product was. After 20 years in IT Service Management and Operations, I can say Demand Management was one of the most difficult and politically charged aspects of my job. At the core, I think people know that not every ask of IT is going to be delivered. However, when that ask goes into a black hole, and the business has no visibility into the progress of their request, that's when things get dicey. Worse yet, sometimes legitimate requests get lost in someone's inbox and never even get considered. Brilliant ideas deserve better, and Demand Management Workbench is a great way to make sure your company's strategic initiatives, and next great idea get the attention they deserve.
The top take-a-ways from today's Demand Management presentation are:
- Prevent poor decision making by managing demand intake and demand assessment.
- Align resources and business strategy through a single system of engagement.
I asked Anthony what his favorite aspects of Demand Management were in Fuji Release and here are his top picks:
- Ideation — which allows people to crowd source, discover existing, and submit and search on ideas
- List Views — See a comprehensive list of all ideas and track their status from request to fulfillment
- Enhanced state model — Visually track and accelerate the progress of a demand
- Workbench — Interactively prioritize and approve business demands
I would also add to Anthony's list the overall visual appeal and ease of use. Stunning!
Let's get the party started
I asked Anthony, "If Demand Management was throwing a ServiceNow Platform party, who would you invite." His guest list includes: Project Management, Resource Management, Portfolio Management, SDLC, Collaboration, and Live Feed.
Sounds like a great party to me. I wonder if this blog post will help score me an invite?
Product Management Shout Out
Big thanks to Anthony Okumura, Associate Product Manager, Project Portfolio Suite for helping me get the word out today.

The Demand Management application consists of tools for capturing, centralizing, and analyzing strategic and operational demands, providing a single location for managing all of the demand information.
The ideation module provides an easy way for users to submit ideas and for demand managers to assess those ideas before promoting them to demands. Ideation also helps end users track the progress of an idea as it moves through the demand life cycle, from an idea to a demand to a project, enhancement, change, or defect. This module is integrated with Demand Management and is available starting with the Fuji release.
